Home repairs generally aren’t tax deductible according to US tax law. For example, if you need to repair a damaged floor, that expense isn’t eligible for a tax claim. However, if these repairs are part of a broader kitchen remodel, you may qualify for a tax deduction. Please note that we are not tax experts, so for any tax-related inquiries, it’s best to consult your accountant.

Kitchen Remodeling FAQs

Yes. Our team of kitchen remodeling professionals can help create your dream kitchen. We will work with you every step of the way to ensure that your new kitchen is exactly what you envisioned. From selecting the perfect cabinets and countertops to ensuring that the kitchen meets your family’s needs, we will take care of everything.

The general guideline suggests that homeowners should invest between 5 and 15 percent of their home’s total value in their kitchen remodel. This range is ideal for homeowners looking to spend wisely and anticipate a return during resale of the property.

Realtor Magazine reported that the typical national return on investment for kitchen remodeling ranges from 84.8% to 98.5%, depending on whether it is a major or minor project and whether the budget is high-end or moderate. While we agree that a kitchen remodel is one of the best investments for your home, we consider more realistic returns to be around 59% to 68%.

Re-facing is more economical than replacing cabinets, but it is generally not advised. If you plan to replace doors and drawer fronts, you’ll also need to change the front face of the cabinet frame to ensure the doors and visible parts match. Issues often arise when re-facing the frame. If the laminate shifts or peels away, an unsightly joint appears. This is the most common complaint among re-facing clients.

Another reason to avoid re-facing is cost. The most expensive part–about 70% of a cabinet’s cost—is the door. Consider this: if you are already paying for most of the cabinet, why not spend a little more to upgrade to entirely new cabinets?

There are many options available for cabinets to fit every budget. If you are committed to investing time, money, and effort into improvement, think about the value and satisfaction you’ll receive from choosing new cabinets. We offer re-facing services because, on occasion, re-facing can be a reasonable choice. Cabinet refacing can be very rewarding since it requires minimal labor. It’s beneficial for the re-facing business but not always the best solution for the homeowner.

Every project is unique. A countertop depends on the specific project and the homeowner’s preferences. Some people prefer a white kitchen, while others embrace color. Not too long ago, granite was more in vogue. Sometimes individuals visit a slab yard and fall in love with a certain granite, and then we work around that choice. If you’re unsure where to begin, your designer can assist you in creating a color palette for your kitchen or bathroom.

This is one of the most frequently asked questions when investigating cabinets. There is a common perception that plywood is superior to particleboard—possibly because plywood has the word “wood” in it. Most people assume that plywood is real wood while particleboard is a low-cost imitation. Surprisingly, in many cases, particleboard is a much better choice than plywood.

To make the best decision, let’s define these two materials. Plywood is made of thin sheets of wood glued together. Particleboard is constructed from small wood particles bonded with adhesive. Both are strong and durable, making them excellent choices for cabinets. Additionally, there are different types and grades of plywood and particleboard. High-density particleboard is stronger and will last longer than plywood. All wood expands and contracts due to changes in humidity. Generally, particleboard is more resistant to expansion and contraction, making it the better choice in areas with significant humidity fluctuations.

A personal loan may be your best option for funding your kitchen remodel, especially if you don’t have enough equity in your home to leverage. Because personal loans are unsecured, you won’t have to use your home or assets as collateral. Personal loans offer longer repayment terms and (usually) fixed interest rates.

Bathroom Remodeling FAQs

Yes. Our team of bathroom remodeling professionals can help turn your dreams into reality. We`ll work with you every step of the way to ensure that your new bathroom is exactly what you envisioned. We handle everything–from selecting the perfect tiles and fixtures to ensuring the plumbing is up to code.

Bathrooms generally yield the highest ROI in a remodeled home. According to Realtor Magazine, the national average return on investment for bathroom renovations ranges from 93.2% to 102.2%, depending on whether the budget is high-end or moderate. In major metropolitan areas, the return varies from 116% to 136.3%. Consequently, many individuals can indeed make significant profits when investing in a bathroom remodeling project.

It depends. The scope of the bathroom remodeling project determines how long it will take. For example, if you are relocating components and reconfiguring the space, the project will likely take a bit longer. However, it’s important to remember that moving components usually requires permits from the building department, which will also contribute to the overall project timeline.

Here’s a sample timeline, for illustration purposes only, of a bathroom remodeling project that does not involve relocating fixtures:

  1. Meet with a design specialist for a consultation and receive a proposal (1 week)
  2. Finalize the project scope and agree to the terms of a remodeling contract (2 to 3 weeks)
  3. Select all the materials for the project (1 to 4 weeks)
  4. Order and have materials delivered (3 to 6 weeks)
  5. Demolish and remove old materials and appliances (1 week)
  6. Install new materials, appliances, flooring, plumbing, electrical work, and painting (2 to 3 weeks)
  7. Perform finishing touches and clean up (1 to 2 weeks)

Set a budget of around $10,000 to $15,000 for a complete bathroom renovation. The average cost for renovating a medium-sized bathroom is approximately $10,000 to $15,000, but this can vary based on the scope of work. Consider a partial renovation if you want to save money. Search for bathroom inspiration online or in magazines. Select a color scheme for your bathroom.

General  Project FAQs

Yes, we handle pulling the permits on your behalf, and will handle permit maintenance.

If you are renovating to stay in your home longer without systems breaking down, your approach differs from renovating to achieve a higher price when you eventually sell. Evaluate your reasons, needs, and budget for the renovations before implementing your plan.

Even a comprehensive whole-house remodel will still be more affordable than tearing down and constructing a new one. The expenses associated with demolition and rebuilding will be approximately 20 percent higher than undertaking an extensive whole-house remodel.

According to the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, if a bathroom remodel is completed properly, homeowners will recoup 50% of the cost. The biggest factors in increasing the value include updating worn-out items, modernizing fixtures, and creating a more functional space.

We begin with an initial conversation to better understand your project. Next, we schedule an in-home consultation to review the space, discuss your project desires, and provide suggestions on your available options. Afterward, we return to our office to prepare a thorough and detailed estimate. Once the project is awarded, we finalize the schedule and connect you with your dedicated project manager.

From there, we set a date for your demo. We then prepare the area to start construction. We follow a comprehensive, step-by-step process to ensure we stay within budget and on schedule. Once your project is complete, we conduct a full walkthrough with you to ensure we have your approval to finalize the work. We address any changes, perform a thorough clean-up, return the furnishings, and obtain final project completion signatures.

Our process is as follows: create a plan, set a budget, consult with your insurance agent, hire a contractor, secure permits, order materials, begin demolition, work behind the walls, paint, and install flooring.

Our design process can take anywhere from two weeks to six months. It truly depends on the number of revisions required for each illustration and when the homeowner wants to begin the project. We can usually move as quickly as two weeks from field measurement to agreement presentation. However, we believe it is crucial to take as much time as needed to ensure the design is exactly what is desired, preventing confusion and additional costs during construction.

We will use tarps to cover large furniture and surfaces in all our work areas. Our crew members will wear shoe coverings when entering your home. We will suggest items for you to move to other areas of the house to prevent damage. We will close and lock doors when entering and leaving your home.

Construction is messy, filthy, and dusty. Before it becomes beautiful, it exists as a building zone. However, we respect your property by laying down clean tarpaulins as needed and by cleaning the workspace and traffic areas daily.

Most property owners live in the house during our work, except for larger jobs where the entire house is involved. In those cases, it’s impractical for homeowners to navigate constantly. We strive to minimize daily disruptions, but keep in mind that a home addition is a significant renovation, which will generate noise and dust throughout the project.

Popcorn ceilings are typically made from stucco or sand paint. This method was used in construction throughout the ’70s and ’80s to hide imperfections in concrete slab ceilings that were never completely level. In some cases, portions of these ceilings are starting to collapse. When repairing a popcorn ceiling, it’s nearly impossible to make the repair undetectable.

There are two ways to smooth these ceilings. One method is to scrape and skim coat. This requires more effort but does not affect the ceiling height. The second method is to frame and install sheetrock on the ceiling. This technique is much faster but will lower the ceiling height by several inches. In some instances, this may be beneficial since new framing allows for running electrical wiring for ceiling light fixtures or speakers. Running wiring through concrete slab ceilings can be quite challenging.

Furthermore, some structures do not allow electrical wiring in concrete slab ceilings. Converting a “popcorn” ceiling to a smooth surface ceiling is a popular trend. Not only does it allow for better electrical installation, but it also makes the space appear cleaner, larger, and less dated.
